Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

It is important to conduct audience research whilst making a new media product because you need to know what audience you’re aiming for so you can develop the ideas of what genres are more popular with that chosen audience. If you decided not to do audience research you had ended up with a completely different genre for your target audience and the media product overall would have been a failure.

Our target audience is mainly teenage girls, we conducted research on this target group and created an audience profile, their interests involved partying, social networking and shopping. Their character types were generally young fun and outgoing.

We initially conducted audience research through a questionnaire and we also looked at comparative texts and similar genres to our own. We looked at different characters for inspiration on our own, we also looked at other posters for colour schemes and layout ideas.

Question 3 - Focus Group/Audience Feedback

Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Question 1 - Using conventions: poster and article analysis

Question 1 - Using conventions: Following a guide to making a short film

Following the guide to make a short film. 1. Get an idea for a movie or short film that you want to make. Write down your ideas or think about them. We got the idea for our short film initially from our childhood and from modern day chick flicks. 2. Write a script for your short film with all of your ideas in it. Also go over your script multiple times. We knew we didn't want a script so we just focussed on our narrative options and wrote down our ideas. 3. Get together a crew and a cast that is willing to do everything it takes to make your project a success. We thought about getting a cast and crew together but then we decided on reliability issues and decided that casting ourselves within the film would be better and more cost effective. 4. Get together items in order for shooting, such as lighting etc. We gathered all of the props, such as the laptop and sweeping brush beforehand. 5. Shoot your film, making sure you use a tripod and the settings are correct. We shot our film using a tripod and shot all of our footage in the one day. 6. After you shoot your footage, get ready for a long editing session. We edited our film over a few weeks, using Final Cut Pro mostly. 7. Rewind your camera to the start of your footage, then capture the footage on an editing system. We edited our film again using different computers and different editing programs. 8. Import the digital sound on your computer from a USB, then match up the sound to the film. We chose the sounds/music according to the scenes of the film and matched them up correctly. 9. Edit your movie further in order everythings correct. We edited our film further to make sure everything was in place, creating more scenes where possible, e.g. the clock scenes and party scene. 10. Save your film and upload it to the internet. We saved our final film and uploaded it to Youtube. http://www.ehow.com/how_2324754_best-short-film.html#ixzz1Gf8lt3tl

Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Facebook invite for short film

Here we created on Adobe CS4/Photoshop the invites for the short film, a Facebook invitation instead of a paper one to make it seem more modern. Therefore enhancing the modern side of the Cinderella story, enhancing our main focus point.

The Party Scene of our Short Film.

Our short film includes the party scene which is shown above where we photographed different parts of what makes a typical teenage party, edited them and added them altogether instead of filming an actual party to make it seem more professional. We also produced our own music to go with the film, so that it made more of a party style scene.

Other Film Teaser Posters.

Here I chose the Twilight Saga as one of the teaser posters as their hype and fan base is huge, meaning that doing teaser posters has a large impact on their audience, enticing them more and more building up their excitement so that they want to see the new film even more. We also get an incite to the next chapter of the film as the characters fit together but are separate teaser posters, therefore giving us a slight indication of more about the film and the plot without giving too much away. It also adds more and more suspense towards the hype of the film making people and their target audience more and more excited to watch it.

People also do fan posters such as the one below which also gets the audiences attention, by using different characters (in this case Jacob Black) this allows you to explore other sides to the film which drags more attention around the hype of the film by including more fascination with different sides of the film. This also allows the audience to get to know the characters more about the film and the characters as the fan made posters are from a more personal perspective and in this case Jacob Black is the hunk character with the stereotypical muscles, tattoos and shirtless physique.

Other Film Teaser Posters.

We included teaser posters into our work as other successful films like for example toy story 3 have done a few, like we have. They give off some sort of excitement to the public and more of an impact and build up for when the actual film is released, therefore making them more popular.

Practise Poster Design.

  • We changed this design as the background doesn't look like it's for a chick flick, it looks more like it should be for a party kind of film/program e.g skins.
  • We also changed it because the font wasn't the main part of it and wasn't easily noticed so something needed to be done about that.
  • We also didn't think it looked professional enough so we needed to check out other film posters that looked at the same genre as us for inspiration and to gain the knowledge about the theme more thoroughly.

Final Edited Photography.

Here we edited the photos that we took for our film and put them into polaroids so that they created more of a personalised feel to the images.

Photography for our Film/Party scene.

Here shows a selection of photos that we took in a party style theme, we took many more.

Character Development

Logo Initialisation.

Here we chose the name 'Cindy' as our film title, we decided to use a simple yet feminine font style and then a pair of lips in a kissing style to show that the film was a 'chick flick' aswell.

After being altered e.g the colours, size etc we came to choose this as our final logo:
